Whether exploring educational options, seeking a fresh direction after an unexpected detour, or deciding among the many pathways available—such as university, college, or apprenticeships—the journey can often feel overwhelming.

I am committed to helping students clarify their goals, explore their options, and find a path that aligns with their aspirations. Together, we’ll uncover their strengths, address challenges, and create a plan that feels right for them.

My approach emphasizes personalized guidance, tailored to each individual’s unique strengths, interests, and needs. With a focus on empowerment and support, I aim to help students feel confident and ready to take their next steps.

Rooted in Education and Experience: Inspiring Student Success

With over 30 years of experience in education, I am passionate about helping students approach post-secondary decisions with confidence and enthusiasm for what lies ahead. As an Ontario Certified Teacher and a proud member of the Ontario School Counsellors Association, I bring a wealth of knowledge, dedication, and compassion to my work. My educational background includes an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Waterloo, a Bachelor of Education from Brock University, and additional qualifications in Guidance and Careers from Queen’s University. This foundation allows me to provide meaningful, tailored support to each student I work with.

As a proud mother of two children who have taken unique post-secondary paths, I combine professional expertise with personal experience to guide students in pursuing their dreams with clarity and optimism. Over the years, I have helped countless students uncover opportunities, build confidence, and create actionable plans for a bright future.

I’d love to meet with you, answer your questions, and explore possibilities you may not have considered yet. Let’s start the conversation—I’m excited to help you take the next step!

Services

Exploring Your Pathways - Cost: $350

This service is designed to help students explore their interests and investigate possible career options and academic programs. Students in grade 10, 11, 12 and a gap year are best suited for this service. It includes two separate counselling sessions and utilizes professional career assessment tools. These sessions can be completed either virtually, in person, or a mix of both.

In our first session, we'll focus on uncovering your unique story. We’ll dive into your academic history by reviewing your transcripts and report cards, and we’ll explore your interests and extracurricular activities. At the end of this session, you will receive two professional assessments to complete at home. These assessments have full reports that provide deeper insights into your strengths and preferences, setting the stage for our next steps together.

The second session will be a more in-depth follow-up session. During this time, we’ll take a closer look at your individual reports and see how they align with your academic journey. I’ll also provide you with valuable resources to help you continue your research and discuss important topics like the research tools, application process, and scholarship opportunities. My goal is to equip you with all the knowledge and support you need to feel fully prepared and empowered for the exciting steps ahead!

At the end of these two sessions, you will be provided with a full report and resources to help you with your application and registration to postsecondary school.

Every student’s journey is unique, and some application processes can feel overwhelming. I provide personalized support to simplify each step, ensuring students feel confident and prepared for what lies ahead. Here’s how I can help:

  • Interview Preparation: For programs requiring interviews, I offer tailored coaching to build confidence, improve communication skills, and practice answering common questions, ensuring students feel prepared to make a positive impression.

  • Scholarship/Grant/Bursary Support: I help identify opportunities that match each student’s achievements and goals. I assist in crafting standout applications, writing impactful essays, maximizing their chances of success.

Testimonials

High School Students

“Before working with Cheryl, I felt unsure about my post-secondary options and overwhelmed by everything I needed to do. Cheryl helped me narrow down programs that actually fit who I am, and she gave me incredibly valuable feedback on my scholarship applications that made a huge difference. She broke everything down in a way that made the process feel less stressful and more achievable. Her support meant so much to both me and my family—we are so grateful for her time, care, and expertise. I would strongly recommend Cheryl to any student navigating this stage of their life.”

“Applying to university felt like a lot at first, but working with Cheryl completely changed that experience for me. She took the time to really get to know me—my strengths, interests, and personality—and helped me understand how those connected to different program options. That gave me a much clearer sense of direction and confidence in my decisions.

What made the biggest difference was how much support she offered beyond just recommending schools. Cheryl helped me compare different programs, create a clear plan for my applications, and gave me meaningful feedback that strengthened my scholarship submissions. What once felt confusing became much more clear and manageable.

Cheryl has a deep understanding of both students and the university process. Because of her guidance, I felt prepared and confident throughout my applications. Now that I’m almost finished my first year, I’m so grateful—I know I chose a program and school that truly fit me.”

Now, I feel confident about what I am doing and genuinely excited about graduating and starting school in September.”

Through working with Cheryl, I gained a much better understanding of myself—my strengths, interests, and the different programs I could pursue after high school. She also helped me see how important it is to put real thought into my supplementary applications and to get involved in activities that make me a more well-rounded student. Her guidance really changed the way I approach my future.”

Initially, I thought that choosing the right program would be the hardest part, but then I had to fill out a lot of supplemental applications. I really appreciated her guidance and encouragement throughout the whole process."

Parent Testimonials

"High school has changed so much since I went to school. Each session was so informative. After going to Cheryl, I have learned about so many new programs that I will definitely be encouraging my younger children to get involved in. As well, I learned a lot about the different types of programs that aren't just offered at universities. There are some fantastic college programs where students can earn degrees. I know that I went there to help my son decide what to do after high school, but it proved to be an educational experience for me too."

"Navigating post-secondary pathways can feel overwhelming, but Cheryl made the process so much easier for our daughter. From the very beginning, she took the time to understand her interests, strengths, and goals, guiding her toward programs that truly fit her aspirations. Cheryl’s knowledge of university and college pathways, scholarships, and career opportunities was invaluable. She not only helped our daughter feel confident in her choices but also provided practical advice that made applications and decision-making far less stressful.

We are incredibly grateful for Cheryl’s patience, expertise, and unwavering support. Thanks to her, our daughter is now on a path that excites and inspires her. If you're looking for someone who genuinely cares about helping students succeed, Cheryl is the perfect person to turn to!"

" I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional guidance and support that Cheryl provided to my son. We first met when my son was in grade 11 and was very unclear about his after high-school career path. From the very beginning, Cheryl took the time to understand my son's unique strengths, interests, and academic progress, offering tailored advice that resonated deeply with him.

What truly impressed me was Cheryl’s ability to help my son gain clarity about potential career options. With expert advice on selecting courses, identifying extracurricular activities, and even exploring volunteer opportunities, Cheryl gave him the tools to make informed decisions about his future. Cheryl also helped him develop a clearer vision of his strengths and how to leverage them in his next stage in life.

Thanks to Cheryl’s guidance and continuous support  my son embarked in a journey of self-discovery that included interviewing leaders in his area of interest and was able to decide that he will pursue a BBA in an University. Now in grade 12, my son has been accepted in a prestigious University that was his # 1 choice and we are beyond thrilled.

I cannot thank Cheryl enough for her dedication, expertise, caring approach, genuine concern for my son success and the lasting impact Cheryl had on my son’s confidence and career outlook at this pivotal time in his life.

Anyone who reads this testimonial is welcome to call me and I would be happy to repeat in person why I am so impressed and humbled by Cheryl's professionalism, dedication and superb ability to help others that like my son who need guidance to navigate this pivotal time in their young lives."

"I’m writing this review of Cheryl’s wonderful service that she provides in helping students achieve the proper guidance and resources while trying to figure out the next steps after high school. My son had gone to college and after 1.5 years came to us distraught and confused. He wasn’t happy in the program he had taken at college and felt so lost. I contacted Cheryl to help him figure out what she thought he would be successful at and see if anything made sense to him. After taking some aptitude tests and discussing the likes and dislikes he had in his program already and his everyday life, Cheryl gave him some wonderful foresight into future careers. She has opened his mind to many new and exciting prospects and given him suggestions on how to explore new options. He is now currently investigating some of the avenues she suggested.  Before meeting with Cheryl, he had a sense of failure and confusion and felt stuck. Her guidance made him have hope and see his potential and let him know he was not alone."

"This is the second time our family has worked with Cheryl, and once again the experience has been outstanding. She supported our older child through the overwhelming process of choosing programs, writing supplemental applications, and applying for scholarships, and we were so impressed by the results that we didn’t hesitate to reach out again for our younger child. Cheryl’s ability to connect with each of them on a personal level, highlight their unique strengths, and guide them toward programs that truly fit has been invaluable. As parents, we are grateful for the peace of mind she brings to what can be a very stressful time. We would highly recommend her services to any family navigating post-secondary decisions."

"When our child had a difficult first year at university, we were worried and unsure what the future would hold. Cheryl’s support made all the difference. She helped our child reflect on their strengths, explore new program options, and rebuild their confidence. Now, instead of feeling defeated, they are excited about going back to school with a clear sense of direction. As parents, we are so grateful for Cheryl’s guidance and encouragement during such a challenging time."
